KHARTOUM, Sudan, 3 August 2026 — The Representative of the International Youth Federation (IYF) in Sudan, Ms. Jenaan Al-Rahman Ahmed met with Professor Ahmed Adam, Minister of Youth and Sports, to discuss strengthening institutional cooperation and developing a framework for future collaboration in support of young people in Sudan.

The meeting brought together the Minister and an IYF delegation for discussions on opportunities for cooperation across youth development and sports, with particular attention to programmes and initiatives that can strengthen young people's capabilities, participation and contribution to sustainable development.

Discussions explored prospects for joint programmes and projects, capacity-building, exchange of knowledge and experience, and support for initiatives designed to expand opportunities for young people. The meeting also considered how stronger institutional cooperation could provide a foundation for structured engagement between IYF and the Ministry at the national level.

Professor Ahmed Adam underscored the Ministry's interest in expanding cooperation with regional and international organisations and in drawing on effective partnerships to advance programmes serving young people and the sports sector. He also highlighted the importance of complementarity between public institutions and international organisations in supporting sustainable development.

For IYF, the meeting represents an important step towards establishing a more structured framework for its engagement in Sudan. The Federation expressed its readiness to work with the Ministry in areas of common interest and to explore programmes and projects that contribute to developing young people's capabilities and expanding opportunities for their meaningful participation.

The discussions come as IYF and the Ministry work towards a proposed Cooperation and Representation Agreement. Once concluded, the agreement is expected to provide the institutional framework for IYF's country-level representation and cooperation with the Ministry, and to enable the Country Team to move forward with the next phase of its work in Sudan.

A key priority following the establishment of this framework will be the development of the Joint Country Programme for Sudan. Rather than being developed as a standalone organisational plan, the programme will be informed by engagement with relevant institutions, young people and prospective partners, helping identify areas where IYF can contribute added value in line with national priorities and the needs and aspirations of Sudanese youth.

The Joint Country Programme is expected to provide a coherent framework for future IYF initiatives in Sudan, connecting programme development, partnerships, capacity-building and opportunities for young people with the Federation's wider regional and global mandate. It will also build on IYF's previous experience in youth leadership and capacity development in Sudan while identifying opportunities for new areas of cooperation.

Through this process, IYF aims to strengthen a nationally grounded country presence that combines local engagement with access to regional and international knowledge, networks and opportunities. The meeting marks a further step in building the institutional foundations for that engagement and in developing a long-term partnership focused on enabling young people in Sudan to develop their capabilities, exercise leadership and contribute to sustainable development.
